Where is Weatherford Texas?
Weatherford Texas is located in the prairies and lakes region of Texas in Parker County, which is known for its rolling hills and picturesque lakes. The city is situated approximately 25 miles west of Fort Worth, and is considered to be a part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Weatherford is also located near several major highways, including I-20 and US-180, making it easily accessible from other parts of the state. Additionally, the city is located near several popular recreational areas, such as Lake Weatherford and the Brazos River, which offer opportunities for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.
Why is Weatherford Texas a good overnight for RV travelers?
We’ve made several trips out west with our RVs over the years and Weatherford is a great spot for an overnight stop, or even longer if you are wanting to explore the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. When route planning, a stop in Weatherford always seemed to make sense to us when traveling through Texas primarily on Interstate 20 (I-20).
We have always stayed at the KOA Journey in Weatherford Texas
The KOA Journey campground in Weatherford, Texas is a great place to stay for those looking to get off the road after a long day of driving or just needing a spot to stay passing through for a few days. The KOA Journey in Weatherford is conveniently located just off I-20, no more than 5 minutes from the exit ramp. KOA journey are generally located very close to the interstate and this Texas location is no exception. After reviewing my video clips of the KOA, I am not sure what i did wrong but the only thing that survived was me trying to mount the GoPro on top of the truck, which is quite boring! The campground offers a variety of sites to choose from, including full hookup sites, water and electric sites, and tent sites. All of the sites are spacious and well-maintained, providing a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. The largest sites are 65 feet which can accommodate big rigs for a quick overnight stop without having to disconnect a tow vehicle.
Amenities of KOA Journey in Weatherford Texas
In addition to the camping options, the KOA Campground in Weatherford also offers a variety of on-site amenities to make your stay even more enjoyable. There is a swimming pool is open from May until October. There is a dog park and propane service is also available. WIFI and cable hookups are also included as part of the nightly fee. The campground also has a small store where you can purchase essentials and souvenirs.
Overall, the KOA Campground in Weatherford, Texas is a great place to stay for those looking to explore the beauty of Texas. With its great location, comfortable camping options, and on-site amenities, we think it makes the perfect stop.

Sports Fields, Picnic and Playground
The most recognizable features in Soldier Springs Park is the large sports complex. There are a total of 7 baseball and softball fields which play host to various little leagues. The park also has a large picnic area, perfect for a family lunch or a group gathering. The picnic area has grills and covered picnic tables that can accommodate large groups. It’s also a great spot to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the park.

There are plenty of restaurants in the Weatherford area, but when in Texas, we really had a hankering for some BBQ. After exploring Weatherford, we decided to treat ourselves to dinner at the Mesquite Pit BBQ Restaurant. This family-owned eatery is renowned for its mouthwatering selection of slow smoked meats and flavorful sides.

The food is mesquite smoked
The restaurant is filled with the aroma of mesquite wood smoke, and offers a cozy atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxing after a long day. The menu includes all the classic BBQ favorites like ribs, pulled pork, brisket and chicken. The side dishes are delicious too; from vegan-friendly options like bean salad, jalapeno cornbread and okra to more traditional choices like coleslaw, potato salad and mac n cheese. This family-owned and operated restaurant has been serving up mouth-watering BBQ for over 25 years and has become a staple in the Weatherford community.
The combo platters are delicious
I had a combo platter and boy was I glad I ordered it! It’s true what they say about Texas BBQ, it really is 
delicious. The photo is the actual food I was served and it did not disappoint. One of the standout features of Mesquite Pit BBQ is the restaurant’s commitment to using only the freshest and highest-quality ingredients. All of the meats are locally sourced and cooked fresh daily, ensuring that each bite is packed with flavor. The restaurant also offers a variety of homemade sauces to complement the meats, including a classic BBQ sauce, a spicy sauce, and a sweet and tangy sauce. The Mesquite Pit is our must stop place when we are in the Weatherford area, without a doubt. Highly recommended!
Hopping back on the interstate
