Stockyards Fort Worth Texas is a 98-acre historic district located in Fort Worth, Texas, which is west of Dallas in the north-central portion of the state. The Stockyards have been part of the city’s identity since 1866 in the heart of the city’s historic district. Located in the heart of downtown, Stockyards Fort Worth Texas is known as “Cowtown” for its roots as a former livestock market. With its rich history and vibrant atmosphere, we think the Stockyards are an essential stop for any traveler in the area looking for a rest from the interstate or a day-long stop with a hotel or RV overnight. There are large parking lots that will accommodate big rigs for a short stay, but there is no overnight RV parking authorized. When we were in the area, we stayed about 30 minutes from the Stockyards. We are glad we did!

The National Register of Historic Places is a list maintained by the U.S. National Park Service to identify and protect buildings, districts, objects, and sites that are important to the history or culture of America. Stockyards Fort Worth Texas was added to this list in 1976 due to its rich history and its 98-acre portion being deemed historic by the United States Government. The Stockyards have since become an iconic destination for tourists who want to get a glimpse into the past. This area has played a significant role in shaping American history, both through important moments such as cattle drives that happened on these grounds and also businesses like wholesale dealerships located here during prohibition days.

Cattle Drive

One of the highlights of our visit and a must see is the famous Fort Worth Herd Twice Daily Cattle Drive. stockyards fort worth texas cattle drive This unique event takes place every day at 11:30 AM and 4:00 PM and features a procession of longhorn cattle being driven down Exchange Avenue by Texas cowboys in classic western costumes. The cattle drive began in 1866 as part of the Chisholm Trail, when longhorns were driven from Texas to northern markets, and it has continued to this day as a tribute to the Stockyards’ history and culture.

The twice daily drive provides visitors with a glimpse of what life was like in the Stockyards during its heyday. The herd consists of 20-25 trained longhorns guided by wranglers on horseback along Exchange Avenue near the Livestock Exchange Building, allowing guests to watch and take photos from designated viewing areas. Before each drive, visitors can watch as the wranglers ready their horses while they dress in their period costumes. Once the cattle arrive from their holding pen, they are inspected by a Stockyards veterinarian and then sorted into small groups for their journey down Exchange Avenue.

Along with providing an entertaining show for Stockyards visitors, the twice daily drives also have an educational purpose. During each procession, Stockyard personnel provide running commentary about local Stockyard history as well as information about longhorn cattle that helps guests gain insight into this unique breed of animal. Additionally, after each drive is complete, Stockyard staff host question-and-answer sessions where attendees can learn even more about this Texas tradition.

When not hosting events such as these or other special activities like rodeos or weekend concerts, Stockyards attendants can be found walking around Central Park in cowboy hats while playing country music on instruments such as harmonicas and guitars.

Stockyards Station Shopping Center

Stockyards Station Shopping Center is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting Stockyards Fort Worth Texas. Located in the heart of the Stockyard’s historic district, Stockyards Station offers over 50 unique shops and restaurants that provide visitors with an authentic western experience. From traditional cowboy wear to new modern styles, there are plenty of options for all shoppers. Additionally, Stockyards Station features live music every weekend which adds to its already vibrant atmosphere. With so much to see and do at Stockyards Station Shopping Center, it’s no wonder why it has become one of Fort Worth’s most popular attractions!

Cowtown Coliseum

The Stockyards in Fort Worth, Texas is home to the iconic Cowtown Coliseum, a historic rodeo and event venue that has been an integral part of Stockyards culture since 1908. The Coliseum was built as a livestock market and served as the site of some of the earliest professional rodeos in North America. The first indoor rodeo began around 1918 and was the first rodeo arena to bring rodeo action to fans. Today, it is one of Stockyards’ most popular attractions, hosting over 300 events each year such as bull riding competitions, concerts, dances, and pageants.

Stockyards Museum

The Stockyards Museum offers visitors an trip into the Stockyard’s past and present, and is located inside the livestock exchange building. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits that provide insights into how Stockyards have changed over time and what they are like today. The museum also showcases unique artifacts from Stockyard businesses, including tools used by stockmen and a variety of memorabilia from local ranchers. Additionally, the Museum features educational programs about livestock production as historic reenactments. Stockyards Museum is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 12:00pm-5pm during the summer. Admission is $2 per person.

Bull Riding Hall of Fame

The Bull Riding Hall of Fame located inside the Cowtown Coliseum. The hall of fame is a museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history and culture of bull riding. The hall features a variety of exhibits that showcase some of the most notable figures in rodeo history as well as stories about their accomplishments. Visitors can also learn about the evolution of bull riding equipment, techniques, and rules over time. Additionally, there are numerous artifacts on display such as saddles, spurs, hats, and other memorabilia from across generations. With its rich heritage and engaging displays, Stockyards Bull Riding Hall of Fame makes for a perfect educational experience for all ages.

If you’re looking for a unique culinary experience in Stockyards Fort Worth Texas then you’ll want to check out H3 Ranch Steakhouse & Saloon right on Exchange Street. This award-winning steakhouse features mesquite grilled steak cooked over an open flame that leaves guests with a truly memorable meal. Along with its famous steaks, H3 Ranch also serves up lobster, and more – all accompanied by an extensive selection of wines and beers. Regardless of where you choose to eat, there are plenty of options. We ate at Risckys in Stockyard Station and had a great BBQ lunch when we visited.

We loved our day at the Stockyards in Fort Worth Texas!

Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to the Stockyards in Fort Worth Texas!
